In Memory of Ren Hang

I am deeply shocked and saddened by the sudden death of Ren Hang. Ren Hang’s photography is like himself, filled with openness, directness and spontaneity. He was always smiling or laughing with mischief. He didn’t think his photography is art, and didn’t give much attention to the art world. Without other reasons, he saw photography and poetry as something he was urged to do. I have a lot of respect for his purity. Perhaps through photography and poetry he acquired a sense of existence, control, and even pleasure. Regardless of intention, Ren Hang’s images will occupy a place in the history of contemporary Chinese photography.

Furthermore, depression is a black sun looming over so many others, to whom we should show more love and care.
