A Departure from Reality I: Self-assertion.psd

Since the 1950’s it has been widely recognized that photographers observe and interpret the world through subjective lenses. This understanding is at the heart of the art of photography; it is the origin of the phrase ‘A Departure from Reality’. Through encapsulating real life, photographers express their sensibilities in a departure from reality, and reveal the essence of photography as an art. ‘Self-assertion.psd’ lays stress on subjectivism and self-consciousness, which translate into an active and intense projection in the photographic images. Both artists Miao Xiaochun and Enoch Cheung take the “real world” as the element in their works and use digital image processing to intensify their expressions of subjectivities.
