Yee I-Lann

Yee I-Lann is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice encompasses photography, video, collaborative weaving, installation, and writing. Drawing on archival research, her works center on the complex geopolitical history of archipelagic Southeast Asia and their continuing impact on contemporary social experiences. Her works engages with themes of colonial history, neocolonialism, globalization, cultural identity, and belonging, while critically unpacking the “notion of power and who has power in storytelling”. With an acute sense of humor, her works foreground alternative perspectives that challenge dominant historical representations.
