Description
An accompanied art book on New Zealand born artist David Boyce’s From the Shoulders of Giants series. This series presents a series of self-portraits created from a combination of images, paintings and projections that consider how an artist’s development and practice is influenced by works of other artists’. The work questions whether true originality really exists. In the series, portraits of artists from the renaissance and earlier, to abstract impressionists, minimalists and post modernists are layered, appearing as more than a single image. This is part of an ongoing series by the artist that looks at the ideas of collaboration and the myth of the iconoclastic individual artist. Boyce references artists he considers giants, bringing their works and influence into his work, in homage.
