Trevor Yeung participates in Dhaka Art Summit 2018, Dhaka, Bangladesh

We are pleased to announce that Trevor Yeung is participating in Dhaka Art Summit 2018, starting from 2 Feb to 10 Feb.

For the exhibition “A beast, a god and a line” curated by Cosmin Costinas of Para Site, Trevor creates two newly commissioned works, titled “Acanthus Medallion (Bangladesh)” and “White Tower (Ceiling Medallion)”. The works are part of the artist’s ongoing series on acanthus, an obscure plant in it living form that is nonetheless widely represented as decorative motifs, most famously in the Corinthian capitals of Greco-Roman architecture. In the context of the Bangladeshi interior, the aesthetic syncretism references a cultural import and a complicated relationship with its colonial past. More broadly, the acanthus series questions the means of symbolic representation and reevaluates the ontology of a living being unmediated by history or cultural norms.
