Sin Wai Kin’s live performance “the story changes the body changes (repeating)” at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

For the 2022 Asian Art Circle Presents program, the Guggenheim is pleased to host the premiere of a newly commissioned performance by Sin Wai Kin. Conceived specifically for the museum’s Peter B. Lewis Theater space, the story changes the body changes (repeating) continues the artist’s exploration of storytelling as a means to interrogate binaries, in this case between reality and fiction. Drawing on traditional roles in Cantonese opera, along with contemporary drag performance as embodied speculative fiction, the narrative will unfold through circular dialogue between two characters: “The Storyteller,” Sin’s iconic personification of the universe as a newscaster, and “Change,” a brand new being making their debut at the program. The content of the program will examine how by crafting fantasy it is possible to manifest new realities.

Venue: Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York
