Isaac Chong Wai and Xiyadie in Venice | The 60th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia

Isaac Chong Wai and Xiyadie will participate in the Main Exhibition of the 60th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia entitled “Stranieri Ovunque – Foreigners Everywhere” curated by Adriano Pedrosa.

Isaac Chong Wai is presenting Falling Reversely (2021-2024), a multifaceted project, now presented through a new large-scale video installation and performance. The project takes place in a 3,000 sq. ft./300m² space in Arsenale and reverses the familiar movements of falling as a thought-provoking response to anti-Asian racism. Chong will stage a series of live group performances Falling Reversely as part of his presentation in the Main Exhibition.

Chong’s live performance schedule:
17 April, 2024, 11:00 am & 4:00 pm
18 April, 2024, 11:00 am & 4:00 pm
19 April, 2024, 11:00 am & 4:00 pm
20 April, 2024, 4:00 pm
21 April, 2024, 4:00 pm

Xiyadie will present four papercut works, including his most ambitious one to date – Kaiyang (2021), measuring nearly 3-meter wide. Kaiyang chronicles Xiyadie’s visit to the famed Kaiyang Bathhouse in Beijing — a popular gay cruising spot near Tiananmen Square. There, Xiyadie found both temporary shelter and lasting community.

Venue: Arsenale – entrance from Campo della Tana 2169/F, 30122 Venice, Italy
