Yan Wai Yin

b. 1994, Hong Kong

Yan Wai Yin (b. 1994, Hong Kong) juxtaposes and inserts narratives into literary texts. Through interweaving personal observations and the temporal, conjuring emotional distances in texts, Yan inscribes quotidian fragments of memories onto objects and space.

Yan’s video “Localized Blindness” (2019) was awarded the Best Experimental Award at the 20th South Taiwan Film Festival (2020), “Tugging Diary” (2020) was awarded at Onion City Experimental Film + Video Festival (2022), Taiwan Kaohsiung Film Festival (2021) and Festival des Cinémas Différents et Expérimentaux de Paris (2021). Her works were shown in international exhibitions and programmes, including M+ (Hong Kong, 2023), Videonale (Germany, 2023), IFFR (Netherlands, 2022), EMAF (Germany, 2021), Videoex (Switzerland, 2021), Image Forum (Japan, 2021), EXiS (Korea, 2021), and TIVA-ANIMA(Taiwan, 2020) among others.

Yan works and lives in Hong Kong.
