Yuen Nga Chi works with photography and video to reflect on the socio-cultural phenomena she encounters in urban landscapes. She often focuses on immigrant families that have experienced displacement from the Mainland to Hong Kong. Her works explore the formation of identity within the social context and its impact on different generations from a personal perspective. In recent years, she has incorporated the theme of captive animals into her art, identifying proximities in the animal world within the domesticated environments constructed by humans.
Yuen participated in several group exhibitions, including Hong-gah Museum (Taipei, 2023), WMA space (Hong Kong, 2023), Tai Kwun (Hong Kong, 2022), The House of Hong Kong Literature (Hong Kong, 2022), Para Site (Hong Kong, 2022), Hong Kong Arts Centre (Hong Kong, 2021), among others. She also participated in festivals and fairs, including Taiwan International Video Art Exhibition (Taipei, 2023), Hong Kong International Photo Festival (Hong Kong, 2023), Kyographie (Kyoto, 2023), Singapore International Photography Festival (Singapore, 2018), Fine Art Asia (Hong Kong, 2016), among others. She was a finalist of Para Site 2046 Fermentation + Fellowships in 2022, the finalist of Hong Kong Human Right Art Prize in 2020, and the finalist of WMA Master Award 2019.
Yuen currently lives and works in Hong Kong.
