“Please Remember Me” is Shu Ikeda’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong.
The central subjects in Ikeda’s work are nature and light. He takes photographs of natural landscapes; and cuts out patterns on the photographs. The layered images show both existence and voids: they represent Ikeda’s cropping of a moment in reality, then cropping it further and reinventing it in a new light and space. Ikeda regards this unique method he developed as “painting with photography” by combining photography and paper cutting. In Ikeda’s world where the real and the imaginary intersect, the viewers recognize deep, visceral response to the external world in their own consciousness.
