Nira Pereg’s multichannel video installations challenge the status quo of any territory she immerses herself in. Pereg anchors her work in documentary practice, developing her own “play of resolutions”. Pereg often employs multichannel presentations which both estrange the events from their origin, and “reenact” them within the exhibition space. This particular aesthetic intervention heightens a constant discomfort with “the way things are”. The merger of spirit and matter, as it is coexist in public spaces of religious/political/military importance, serves as a platform for Pereg’s interest and involvement in the social manifestations of power structures which influence our lives.
Pereg’s works have been exhibited at the Centre Pompidou (Paris, France, 2014), PS1 Contemporary Art Center (New York, US, 2005), Hirshhorn Museum (Washington, US, 2011), HDK Berlin (Germany, 2005), ZKM | Museum für Neue Kunst (Karlsruhe, Germany, 2008), The Israel Museum Jerusalem (Israel, 2012), Kunsthalle Dusseldorf (Germany, 2013) and LAXART (Los Angeles, US, 2018). She took part at various international platforms such as the 9th Shanghai Biennale (China, 2012), Sao Paulo Biennial of Art (Brazil, 2012), and Architecture Biennale (Venice, Italy, 2013 and 2018).
