Sin Wai Kin’s work Today’s Top Stories (2020) is currently on view in a group exhibition “There is no later. Later is here.” at Arter, Istanbul, Turkey.

“The exhibition There is no later. Later is here. takes its title from an excerpt of Cormac McCarthy’s The Road – a novel that does not approach the apocalypse as a singular, finite event, but instead relentlessly examines the world’s dwindling conditions of reality. Bringing together works from the Arter Collection, the exhibition explores the tragic, cinematic, and oftentimes absurd nuances of “the end”, while questioning the manipulation, mediatisation, and recursive discourse of apocalyptic thinking. Etymologically, the word “apocalypse” – coming from Greek elements apo (“away from”) and kalyptō (“to cover” or “to conceal”) – means “unveiling”. Yet today, contrary to its original meaning, the idea of the end of the world and its oversaturated imagery in popular culture veil something far more relevant, far less visible than a sudden catastrophic scenario: cumulative, interconnected global forces so massive in scale that their impact will outlast our very existence on Earth – radiation, global warming, hydrocarbons, plastics…” —Arter
