Yangjiang Group

Yangjiang Group is an artistic group created in 2002 in Yangjiang, Guangdong Province, China by Zheng Guogu (b.1970, Yangjiang), Chen Zaiyan (b.1971, Yangchun) and Sun Qinglin (b.1974, Yangjiang).

They use the unique medium of Chinese calligraphy to develop a diverse contemporary art practice, including Performance, Photography, Painting, Video and Installation. Yangjiang Group aims to rid their artistic practice of any established rules and controllable conditions. Their works are often series of daily actions and processes in the form of non-traditional, large-scale, architectural structures. They regularly perform a variety of commonplace activities within galleries, museums and site-specific exhibitions at art festivals and art fairs, such as eating, drinking, bartering, gaming, and gambling. “After Dinner Shu Fa” is one of such performance.

Works of Yangjiang Group have been widely exhibited at prestigious galleries and museums, such as the San Diego Museum of Art in USA, Tate Liverpool in UK, Kunthaus Graz in Austria, Mori Art Museum in Japan, Guangdong Museum of Art and He Xiangning Museum of Art in China. They also participated in Art Basel in 2008, 2010 and 2012; Lyon Biennial in 2009, Documenta 12 in 2007, the Venice Biennale in 2003 and the Gwangju Biennale in 2002.
