CUI Xiuwen

b. 1970, Northern China

Cui Xiuwen graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing in 1996. Her artwork focuses on addressing issues of sexuality and femininity in China. She is one of the most renowned artists in contemporary art in China, and one of the first Chinese artists exhibited at international museums such as Tate Modern. Cui’s artworks had also exhibited in museums worldwide, she now lives and works in Beijing.

About Existential Emptiness
Existential Emptiness is Cui’s series after releasing Angel in 2006. This series is a continuation of Cui's self-exploration and artistic expression of the female experience in today's China.
